Top Class Golf Courses
The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) South Coast, often dubbed the “Golf Coast,” is home to several top-tier courses that perfectly blend challenging golf with spectacular natural beauty, chief among them being San Lameer Country Club, Wild Coast Sun Country Club, and Southbroom Golf Club. San Lameer offers a tropical paradise experience, with its 18-hole championship course winding through a pristine nature conservancy of wetlands and coastal forest, demanding precision in its tight, well-conserved layout. The Wild Coast Sun provides one of the country’s most dramatic golfing adventures on a rugged, undulating course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jnr, featuring the iconic Par 3 13th hole that plays across a waterfall, with every shot set against a backdrop of breathtaking ocean and ravine views. Completing the trio is the charming Southbroom Golf Club, a historic resort course that offers a blend of parkland and links characteristics where its famous Par 3 Fourth hole sits virtually on the beach, allowing golfers to enjoy a strategic, wind-affected round alongside views of the Indian Ocean and coastal wildlife.
Wine and Dine
In the Southbroom and Trafalgar area of the KZN South Coast, food lovers are spoilt for choice with top-class dining. Trattoria La Terrazza offers authentic Italian flavours with a warm, welcoming atmosphere and stunning lagoon views. Just down the road, Flavours Restaurant in Southbroom is known for its refined dishes, seasonal ingredients, and elegant yet relaxed setting, perfect for a special evening out. Chefs on Marine in Ramsgate combines fresh, locally inspired cuisine with a chic coastal vibe, making it a must-visit for gourmet experiences.
Bird Watching
The Mpenjati Nature Reserve, stretching across wetlands, dune forests, grasslands, an estuary and coastline, supports a rich diversity of species. Paths like the Ipithi and Yengele trails, plus several boardwalk observation platforms, offer excellent vantage points. On your walks you might spot waterbirds like Half-collared Kingfisher, Swift Tern, African Black Oystercatcher, Kittlitz’s Plover and Water Thick-knee, while the forested sections are home to species such as Red-capped Robin-Chat, Green Twinspot, Forest Canary and Orange-breasted Bush-shrike. Quiet mornings or near water’s edge are especially rewarding—the mix of habitats means surprises are always possible.
